There’s something about putting on a blazer, heels, and some glasses that make you feel confident and ready to take on the day. Currently, dressing up for work and getting into power mode is what’s getting me through the work week. I’m not spending my days filling up my career life bucket, instead my bucket is getting sucked dry.
As part of the Self Love Series, I believe looking into your work life plays a huge role because you spend so much of your time working. Are you truly happy there? Is there something you can change to make it even better? Or are you like me, where your passion is lacking. What can we do to change this and where do we go from here?
Prompt 7 of the Self Love Series: Filling Up My Career Life Bucket and figuring out your passion and purpose.
I recently read this article titled, “9 Ways to Figure Out What You’re Meant To Do“, I opened the article with optimism and hope that it would help me figure out where I’m supposed to go from here. Unfortunately, I felt like I couldn’t answer most of the questions honestly. My passions, my interests, my dreams for the future… they are still a blur. It’s the biggest part of my life that I feel so unsure about. I see people living out their dream careers and I find it so incredibly amazing to watch. It’s attractive to see someone confident in their career and loving every second of it, that they also don’t seem to mind the dirty work behind it. For me, my career doesn’t fill my bucket like I hoped it would. I’m on the search for a new pathway and it’s so much more difficult than I had imagined.
I’ve researched and quizzed my brain on finding the career path that fits me, it typically leads to some sort of teaching position. Which is exactly what I do now, shocker! But maybe teaching is something I am meant to do? I can still do it, just in a different sort of setting. Economist Neil Howe states, “only 5% of the population finds a good career path on their first try” and that the average person changes jobs 11 times during their career. With that being said, I’m no different. I’m just on the search for my passion!
If you’re anything like me, where work isn’t satisfying your soul, keep searching! Stay confident in what you’re doing. Throw on the blazer, it makes you get shit done!
I’d love your advice on this prompt, because this is where I struggle. Did you go through a career change? Are you having difficulty figuring out what you want to do with your work life? Any suggestions and comments are appreciated!
