There I am sitting in yoga breathing in and breathing out and trying my hardest to get into that zen relaxation feeling that yoga can bring. Ya know, where your mind goes blank and quiet. But lets be real, while it is an absolutely incredible feeling, I’ve got a racing mind.
Cat and cow. Ugh, awkward. I know that guy is staring at my ass.
What the heck am I going to say in that meeting tomorrow?
Dang that girl is flexible. Holy crap, she just keeps getting lower.
I pledge allegiance to the flag…what the heck am I doing.
Focus Robin, FOCUS.
With so much distraction in our life, it’s easy to never get to that quiet mind that you hope for. So here we go…3 Steps to Quiet Your Mind During Yoga including a Yoga playlist!
- Focus on your breathing. While I admit that I struggle with this for longer than a few minutes, it does work. Your mind isn’t spent wandering if you give it something to focus on. Allow your mind and your body to connect.
- Repeat what you are doing out loud or in your head. Remind your body what it is doing and the purpose behind each movement. When I’m in a class, I’ll repeat what the instructor is saying in my head. If I am at home, I am saying out loud exactly what I am doing, including a reminder to breathe. When your mind and body are in the same place, it becomes one fluid motion.
- I’ve noticed that when I do yoga at my house, I need a seriously incredible pre-made and personalized playlist. If I don’t plan out my music, I’ll be over it in a second and suddenly I’m sitting on the couch and shoving my face with cookies. So in order to avoid cookie shoving, I’ve whipped up my go-to yoga playlist for you! Let me know if you use it!
